Winter 2016 meeting recap

The Winter meeting of Republican State Committee was held on January 15-16, 2016 at the Hotel Hershey.  On Friday afternoon, we attended an advanced training session on using GOP Data Center, as well as sessions on legal issues relating to fundraising and federal elections, as well as updates from the state party communications team.  Friday evening we had the opportunity to hear from Senator Pat Toomey.

A meeting of the Southwest Caucus of State Committee was held Saturday morning, followed immediately by the general meeting.  At our Southwest Caucus meeting, we had an opportunity to hear from each of the three Republican candidates running for statewide office:  State Senator John Rafferty for Attorney General, Northampton County Executive John Brown for Auditor General, and Otto Voit for State Treasurer.

During the general meeting, we heard state legislative reports from State Senator Scott Wagner and Speaker Mike Turzai, who received a standing ovation for his efforts to stop Governor Wolf's massive tax hikes.  We also received a Congressional update from Congressman Tim Murphy who spoke about the mental health crisis in America.  Following the reports from elected officials, State Committee voted unanimously to endorse our three candidates for statewide office and each of them gave some brief remarks.
